You make a great point, John. There is no utility in guilting teachers into staying in their role. The fact that is even a 'viable option' to some is preposterous to us. The point we are making with this piece is - like for teachers like you who are considering exiting the role - consider making a soft handoff to your peers to students you have a relationship with. Additionally, like you, wait until the end of the year. I know for me last year, I made it all the way to May...and then I broke down and had to leave my role. It was a hard decision, but I know how my absence affected my students. They tell me about once per week.
All that said, I wish you well in the next phase of your personal and professional life after teaching. Thank you for your service!
