Really insightful existential questioning here, Alex. One additional question that is similarly paradoxical that we keep asking ourselves is how can we expect all students to meet academic benchmarks that assume all students can focus their entire attention on standardized tests. We know that every student has a unique and nuanced situation that deserves in some cases special accommodations to function within the context of a school…and we also know that some students have to worry about where they will eat, sleep, or be safe before and after school every day of their life.
