How Colleges and Universities can Succeed Where D.A.R.E Failed

Why DARE Failed

Substance addiction is a significant issue affecting college students today, and addressing it effectively requires more than just surface-level solutions.

Thousands of families have been destroyed by addiction, and frequently the burden for sobriety falls on the individual. As a society, we place blame on people who use substances to distance themselves from a terminally toxic world. Our government has gone so far as to declare “war” on drugs and drug users…creating more fear, anxiety, and otherwise problems for people who are literally trying to survive each day.

While there are efforts to combat addiction, such as programs like D.A.R.E. and therapy resources aimed at helping people recover, these initiatives often fall short in truly tackling the root of the problem. D.A.R.E. and similar programs do spread important messages about the dangers of substance abuse, but they tend to only reach specific, often more privileged, communities.
