Botched FAFSA Rollout by Federal Government Causing Millions of High School Seniors to Reassess the Value of a College Degree

As high school seniors draw their secondary education to a close, many are looking forward to participating in the pursuit of upward social mobility through education.

An increasingly small(er) number of students in college come from families on the higher end of the socioeconomic stratification spectrum. Students from these families are relatively more insulated from the problems associated with not being able to afford their education.

Millions of other students, however, depend on financial aid to finance their dreams of a degree.

Normally, by May 1, seniors would have clarity on their college plans and financial aid offers. Parents can start to think about what their student will need to bring with them to survive in their dorm. Students are planning on making connections with new friends once they both arrive on campus through social media. Campuses are allocating funding to buying sweatshirts and pizza and condoms to serve the needs of their incoming undergraduate cohort.
