At ChiEAC, we focus on equity in education, and part of that means ensuring that new tools (like AI) are used to empower students rather than penalize them unfairly.
We agree that the way we measure learning is flawed. Overemphasis on grades often shifts the focus from mastering skills to maximizing scores, which in turn incentivizes academic dishonesty.
Goodhart’s Law is a particularly relevant framework: when grades become the primary goal rather than learning itself, students will find ways to meet that goal, whether through AI, memorization, or other means that may not align with true intellectual growth.
